How to Buy CBD Oil or Hemp Oil for Making
Homemade Dog Treats
Welcome to the Baked Dog by Bark Avenue. This is How to Buy CBD Oil or Hemp Oil for Making Homemade Dog Treats. Today, we’re going to actually be talking about the most important ingredients in all of our recipes moving forward. And that is the CBD oil.
How to Buy CBD Oil
So, the first topic we’re going to cover is how to purchase this oil. You’re going to have a lot of third- party vendors out there via Amazon, eBay, that sort of thing. But I actually have a huge caveat about purchasing through those online stores, even though it may seem that it’s a good deal.
I have found trying to purchase oil there myself, that they don’t really provide you with any third-party testing. So, the reason you need a third-party testing is number one, it actually tests for cannabinoid potency. So, you know, what you’re paying, is what you’re getting.
Second of all, for the safety of your animal, you know, it’s for pesticides, as well and heavy metals, bacterial and microbial content, as well as mycotoxins or mold. So, the cheapest oil is not always the best.
Our second part of this will be how to store your oil once you have received it from a reliable source. So first of all, it’s probably going to be coming in a dark glass, you know jar or something like this. But it’s going to be quite difficult to be able to access your oil through this. And sometimes it will come with a dropper, which is also not very exacting when it comes to actually dosing your product.
Storing Your CBD Oil
My suggestion is that you transfer it into a low sided glass jar, if you can find one that is you know, dark as well to help protect the oxidation of your oil, I would actually recommend that even better. So, transfer it to something that you can easily access the oil from.
How to Dose
The next part of this is what you will need to actually dose for a recipe. So, I brought sample syringes with me today, I actually have two glass syringes. And I also have a plastic syringe which you can actually just purchase at Walmart. And this is a one ml and this is a 1 ml glass syringe and a three ml glass syringe. I prefer to use glass, because it’s a little bit more eco-friendly as well.
You also want to make sure that when you do purchase any plastic syringes that you want to make sure that the plungers are white. So, it’s easy to be able to discern where the black stopper and the black oil meet.
If you’re unfamiliar on how to use the graduations on your syringes, I suggest just go visit your vet and ask your vet you know, how do I dose this? How do I use this, let’s just say the recipe calls for something like 2.46 ml, you know, ask them for, you know, specific syringes, and to show you. They’ll be more than happy to do so.
Equipment
The one of the important items that you will need is a digital scale, or a lab scale would even be better but those are quite costly. A digital scale is more than adequate to be able to dose your product properly as well as knowing the weight of your total recipe and how much ml you need to actually dose.
