What’s the Difference Between Hemp Dog Treats and CBD Dog Treats?

Hemp vs. CBD

Hemp dog treats and CBD dog treats are the same and can be used interchangeably.  CBD dog treats are called by active cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, cannabidiol, or CBD for short.

Hemp dog treats is called by the variety of cannabis plant, that happens to be high in CBD compounds.  The  plant is also known as “Industrial Hemp”. One will often read that a product is manufactured using hemp oil or industrial hemp. Again, this is one and the same.

In summation, this type of product will either be called by the active compound CBD, or the variety of plant the active compound comes from, hemp.

To further confuse people, CBD has been cracked down by anyone and everyone. From Facebook advertising to listings on EBay, Amazon, to merchant processing, and the list goes on.  People that work and manufacture in this industry  are come up with new acronyms such as “PCR Oil”. This is just as the general public is starting to educate themselves to the term “CBD”.  One of the reasons the term “hemp” started being used in place of CBD. Another way to seem more innocuous and fly under the radar. It is a delicate business balancing act, and being able to have people find your product and not get shut down.

New Trend?

Be on the look out: “PCR Oil”, or phytocannabinoid rich oil may be the next synonymous term birthed from the controversial “CBD” moniker after businesses start encountering more and more problems; and other creative ways to describe products using CBD or hemp oil.  This will continue until the hemp plant is re-classified out of Schedule I drug status, and hopefully lands and is managed under the Department of Agriculture to be listed as an industrial crop like corn or soy. Until then, the public can expect to have confusing labeling and names for the same type of product that change frequently and faster than the general public can keep up with.

Update

With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp has now been re-classified and it is legal to grow in the US. Previously it had only been legal in a handful of states. Soon many other states began to follow and thus the passing of the bill. This enables the USDA to administer farm programs and provide guidelines and eligibility for growers and extractors. It is the first step to legal regulation of the hemp industry. There is still much to do and large bridges to close the gap, but it’s a start. We will keep you abreast of new developments as they unfold.

Don’t be afraid to ask your CBD manufacturer if they are using oil that is coming for USDA certified facilities. Any added form of safety in a not so fully regulated industry helps every little bit.

We at Bark Avenue Hemp Treats use a vertically integrated CBD manufacturer.  They grow, harvest, extract and test all under one roof.  FDA approved facility, non-GMO, organic with complete SDS information and licenses and certificates.  This is the best way to have full quality control over your supply chain. Less outsourcing means less room for error. We take product safety very seriously, and that means your pet’s health is our number one priority.
